My Focus

Although I have experience working with clients across a wide spectrum of needs, my concentration now is focused on the following areas.

Couples Therapy

Inside of BuildingHealthy relationships provide one of the most powerful and challenging opportunities for emotional and spiritual growth. Many times relationships become trapped in recurring patterns of incomplete or negative communication. You have the same fights over and over because neither party is hearing the other. If you are in such a relationship, that relationship affects your whole life. A relationship with an emotional or physical disconnect depletes your energy, disrupts the daily events of your life, and breaks intimacy and trust. I always try to address relational issues in a way that respects both partners in the relationship. Together we can work toward reconnection with your partner in a safer and more secure relationship.

Sometimes, though,it is not possible to create a healthy relationship, and you must make the difficult decision to separate. When this happens, you will need help in reevaluating your part in this break-up. I can be compassionate and unbiased in assisting you through this difficult life transition.

I have a special interest in helping same-sex couples as I appreciate the additional complexity that arises from the cultural, social and legal pressures that are brought to bear on their relationships.

Family Therapy

Inside of BuildingI see families as a set of mingled relationships that often reflect the associations and pressures of preceding generations. Parents both mentor their own children and mirror how they themselves were treated by their own parents. These stresses are too often manifested as a dysfunctional family group. I work within the group structure to see that everyone is heard and each family member has the opportunity to express their needs in a controlled, stress-free environment. This is particularly needed when the parental relationship is in jeopardy. Too often the demands of the parents’ own issues overlook the needs of the children. I strive to see that parents recognize the impact of their choices on their children and allow them to interact in the those choices.

Individual Therapy

Inside of BuildingIndividuals come to therapy because they are having problems and want assistance in making positive changes. They wish to discover the causes for their problems, make positive life choices, and improve the quality of their lives.

If you are having difficulties such as depression, anxiety, stress, inability to concentrate, self-loathing, and lack of trust, I can help you. We will work together to discover the underlying sources of your issues and create active, workable measures to restore your well-being.

During my first years of psychotherapy, I dealt with many addicted clients, especially in eating disorders and substance abuse. Because the addicted personality has special needs, I use a variety of treatment tools to assist individuals in breaking the cycle of addiction and establishing new modalities that lead to a clean and sober life.

I have worked with many victims of abuse, both as children and adults. The trauma created by abuse has powerful and long-lasting consequences on the life of the victim. If you are someone who was abused, I can help you open up these past wounds, understand their present effects, and defuse the power they hold over you.
